Well-known chef Christian Ruck enjoys a well-deserved reputation as one of the best chefs in Germany for several decades, since 2004 heading the Tafelhaus restaurant overlooking the harbor. Guests are offered Mediterranean cuisine with a subtle Asian infusion, and the favorites here are veal steak with avocado mousse or curry-flavored apple soup. A comprehensive wine cellar holds an exceptional selection of wines for the city’s elite, but places must be reserved in advance.

Le canard
With local chef Ali Güngermus, proudly wearing the Michelin star on the lapel, the upscale Le Canard restaurant in Hamburg has a superb reputation that has spread far beyond the city limits. Even simple recipes in its execution have a brilliant twist. Here you can taste fresh local clams served with a sweet quince dessert or champagne soup. The décor of the restaurant is light and modern, and the deck terrace offers magnificent harbor views. It is especially popular in the summer, but you can reserve a table all year round. This Hamburg restaurant is expensive.

Chefs with a well-deserved reputation prepare traditional regional dishes here, complementing them with all kinds of international features. The service is impeccable, as is the wine list (with over 600 varieties). A special dish of northern Germany here is the Vierlander duck. Address: Elbchaussee 130, Hamburg, Germany.
