Being a truly cosmopolitan city, Hamburg offers its guests a huge selection of restaurants with all kinds of cuisine. It can be fully international cuisine, French gourmet cuisine, Italian pizzerias, high-level sushi or Mexican tacos. Hamburg has 11 restaurants with a Michelin star, which puts it on a par with Berlin. Regardless of the size of the budget, or preferences, you can actually be sure that you will not stay hungry in Hamburg. Hamburg restaurants on this list are grouped into three evaluation categories: Expensive (more than 50 €), Moderate (25 € – 50 €), Cheap (up to 25 €). These are Hamburg restaurant prices for a three-course dinner.

Restaurant Tafelhaus
Tafelhouse belongs to the category of expensive restaurants, often visited by celebrities and gourmets from around the world. Well-known chef Christian Ruck enjoys a well-deserved reputation as one of the best chefs in Germany for several decades, since 2004 heading the Tafelhaus restaurant overlooking the harbor. Guests are offered Mediterranean cuisine with a subtle Asian infusion, and the favorites here are veal steak with avocado mousse or curry-flavored apple soup. A comprehensive wine cellar holds an exceptional selection of wines for the city’s elite, but places must be reserved in advance.

Le canard
With local chef Ali Güngermus, proudly wearing the Michelin star on the lapel, the upscale Le Canard restaurant in Hamburg has a superb reputation that has spread far beyond the city limits. Even simple recipes in its execution have a brilliant twist. Here you can taste fresh local clams served with a sweet quince dessert or champagne soup. The décor of the restaurant is light and modern, and the deck terrace offers magnificent harbor views. It is especially popular in the summer, but you can reserve a table all year round. This Hamburg restaurant is expensive.

Landhaus scherrer
Many of the best restaurants in Hamburg tend to ignore German gastronomic heritage. But this does not apply to the restaurant Landhaus Scherrer, located in a beautiful mansion of 1827 (a former brewery) on the banks of the Elbe River. Chefs with a well-deserved reputation prepare traditional regional dishes here, complementing them with all kinds of international features. The service is impeccable, as is the wine list (with over 600 varieties). A special dish of northern Germany here is the Vierlander duck. Address: Elbchaussee 130, Hamburg, Germany. Phone: (040) 8830 70030.

Da paolino
Da Paolino is a reasonably priced restaurant. Many restaurants in Hamburg enjoy river and sea views, but few are actually on the water. Da Paolino – one of these restaurants, based on the pier of Lake Alster, at its southern edge. The friendly Italian dining room has its own South European menu. This is Italian gourmet cuisine at affordable prices, with a focus on assorted Italian appetizers and pasta dishes. A very frequented restaurant becomes even busier during the summer months when you can dine outdoors right on the pier. Address: Alsterufer 2, Hamburg, Germany. Phone: (040) 4135 5655.

Restaurant Fischereihafen
This restaurant has been operating in Hamburg for almost 40 years, considered one of the best places for tasting seafood in the city. Modestly squeezed into the space between two warehouses of the fish market, this is a classic example of a restaurant for the knowledgeable. The interior is divided into a restaurant and a separate oyster bar. All seafood is bought at a daily local auction, so only the freshest products from the North Sea are used. Address: Grosse Elbstrasse 143, Hamburg, Germany. Phone: (040) 381 816.

Restaurant Nil
Favorite among creative Hamburg and connoisseurs of unconventional location. The former old shoe store retained most of the original 1950s décor, turning into a restaurant. This establishment has its own aesthetic and culinary style, with food of the highest level from a qualified team of chefs. The prices in the restaurant are extremely reasonable, as for such an exquisite menu. Address: Neuer Pferdemarkt 5, Hamburg, Germany. Phone: (040) 439 7823.

Restaurant Abendmahl
There are also cheaper restaurants on our list of Hamburg restaurants. This small restaurant near Reperban attracts a young clientele, who then goes to conquer local bars and clubs. The atmosphere here is always lively, the menu is small, but constantly changing. It focuses mainly on French, Italian and German dishes, as well as cocktails of its own invention. After a good dinner at Abendmahl, you will have a great mood and a lot of energy in order to have a good night’s sleep. Address: Hein-Kollisch-Platz 6, Hamburg, Germany. Phone: (040) 312 758.
